If someone should be droning on to you about something, the best strategy to implement is to slowly nod every five seconds or so whilst keeping your head cocked to the side with your ear facing the individual, thus giving the illusion of listening when in reality you are thinking about something wonderful and completely different... like clouds.
This works especially well for those pesky general's lectures during "strategy" meetings
